Galaxy Sports Academy takes on Rivers United FC in a friendly encounter in Port Harcourt

On the 30th of August 2021, it was a football encounter between Rivers United FC and Galaxy Sports Academy Nigeria.

All eyes were on Rivers United as the game kicked off by 4:00 PM. Football fans in Rivers State came to watch the troop of young talented players from Benue State.

The first offensive action as usual came from the highly determined attack line of Galaxy Sports, with a combination of passes between its offensive powerhouse of Godfrey Utim and Johnson Olukotun with its dynamic young midfield marshaled by its starlet midfielders John Akende and Emmanuel Iweswem. The first one on one save came from Rivers United.

It took Rivers United less than 10 minutes into the game to score its first goal as Briama Saina, the agile Ghanaian international goalkeeper of Galaxy Sports was caught by a beautiful turn and onetime shot on goal on the edge of the 18 yard box by Destiny Ashadi of Rivers United.

The match was full of high tempo as the young players of Galaxy Sports tried to settle in the game. Rivers United proved they were ready for this year's continental games. The Nigerian technician manager Stanley Eguma, kept to his possessional play even as the young team of Galaxy Sports came out with high pressing.

Rivers United absolved the pressure mounted by the young lads of Galaxy Sports as the first-half ended 1-0 in favour of the riverine side.

Galaxy Sports Academy is known for its high tempo display and it worked for the Benue based academy excellently. The second half had nothing other than the expectation that Galaxy Sports boys would show they were hungrier for action of which they did. Rivers United needed this friendly to test its new signings as they prepare their team during this preseason period.

A penalty was awarded to Rivers United in the first quarter of the second half as Emmanuel Iweswem failed to catch his breaks in the box but ran into the new left winger of Rivers United. The well taken penalty by Ishaq Kayode made it 2-0 for Rivers United. 

An excellent freekick taken by the left back of Galaxy Sports Audu Baba, towards the end of the match beat the defense line of Rivers United and it was Valentine Aban who found the back of the net of Rivers United but the referees ruled it for offside.

The continuing part of the match was played in the half of Rivers United as the young lads proved they were full of energy. The goal stopper of Rivers United made sure he kept a clean sheet as Mathew Suur, Lucky Okwoli, Godfrey Utim and John Kakaki had their well taken shots stopped.

In the end, the young lads of Galaxy Sports proved they had proper development as Stanley Eguma sang praises to a very young but highly determined side.
